Salisbury Beach residents pooled funds for a sand dune to protect their homes from coastal erosion. But "king" high tides washed away half of the human-made dune after only three days. The project, organized by the community nonprofit Salisbury Beach Citizens for Change, built a human-made sand dune along the beach to block floodwaters from reaching homeowners' properties. This video posted on the SBCFC facebook page shows the final stages of construction for the Salisbury Beach human-made dune. Seeding sand dunes with grass anchors sand in place, fortifying dunes against erosion from waves and wind, according to UMass Amherst.

Second, U.S. stocks are global market leaders, and when a small group becomes market leaders it almost always means the U.S. stock market outperforms the world. Stock buybacks struggled to recover last year after taking a hit in 2022, even as corporate earnings began to rebound. Investors view buybacks as an indication that a company’s leadership believes its own shares are undervalued and are confident about its future performance. Buybacks also tend to push up share prices due to the added demand. ONEOK, a natural gas company, on Wednesday unveiled a $2 billion share repurchase program. The week’s total for initial claims landed far below economists’ projections for 205,000 initial claims, according to FactSet estimates.

The analyst community (which forecasts individual stock earnings and prices) is also making estimates for 2024. Unfortunately, like their macroeconomic strategist brethren, Wall Street analysts also have a long history of being wrong on their forecasts. Since the S & P 500 rises in almost three out of four years, analysts are understandably a generally bullish group. There have been four years in the last 20 where the analyst estimates at the start of the year differed from the final estimates by a margin greater than 25%. No wonder the S & P 500 closed Friday at a new high for the year.

KOLKATA, Nov 14 (Reuters) - Australia head into Thursday's World Cup semi-final against South Africa with the same excitement in the dressing room that propelled them to their maiden triumph in the T20 World Cup in 2021, Glenn Maxwell said. Maxwell was part of Aaron Finch's groundbreaking squad in the United Arab Emirates in 2021 and scored an unbeaten 28 in the final against New Zealand. "The excitement of that match has given us a whole new belief going forward," Maxwell said in an interview with Australian broadcaster Fox Sports. "It reminded me of the T20 World Cup in 2021. "The feeling around the group was energetic, electric, exciting and everyone felt they were heading towards the same end goal.

Needing 19 runs off Mitchell Starc's final over, New Zealand milked 13 runs off the first four legitimate deliveries to keep the heat on Australia. "That was awesome," Australia captain Pat Cummins said after their fourth win in six matches. Glenn Phillips broke the burgeoning stand by taking a return catch to dismiss Warner, but Head raced to a 59-ball century. New Zealand were uncharacteristically sloppy in the field, dropping five catches, with Head the beneficiary on two occasions. That left Ferguson with the job of hitting the final delivery for six, but he drilled it straight to the cover fielder instead.

A new estimate says the record summer heat in Texas cost the state's economy $24 billion. AdvertisementAdvertisementThe Lone Star State's punishing and record-breaking heat wave, coupled with an unyielding drought, significantly affected local businesses and, by extension, the state's economy. For every 1-degree increase in average summer temperature, Texas sees a 0.4% slowdown in its annual nominal GDP growth. Notable establishments like Schlitterbahn, SeaWorld, and Six Flags blamed their dips in summer visitors on the heat wave. It was Afghanistan's first ODI victory against Pakistan in eight attempts and the outcome leaves defending champions England at the bottom of the points table. "This win tastes nice," a beaming Shahidi said after their second victory in five matches. Teenage spinner Noor Ahmad (3-49) dismissed Abdullah Shafique (58) and Mohammad Rizwan (eight) in his successive overs in his memorable World Cup debut. Shaheen Afridi returned to break the burgeoning stand, dismissing Gurbaz, but Zadran and Rahmat Shah, who made 77 not out, continued the good work. Hasan Ali ended Zadran's gallant knock but Shah and Shahidi milked the Pakistan attack with consummate ease during their unbroken 96-run stand to seal a memorable victory over their neighbours.

Malan combined with Bairstow in a 115-run opening stand to give England a terrific start after being put into bat by Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan. Even after Bairstow departed for 52, there was no respite for Bangladesh as Malan raised 151 runs with Root, whose 82 followed his 77 in the tournament opener against New Zealand. Malan clobbered five sixes and 16 fours in his 107-ball blitz before losing his off-stump to spinner Mahedi Hasan (4-71). CNBC's Jim Cramer said he sees success ahead for fast-food chain Chipotle, even though its stock got clobbered and dropped nearly 10% on Thursday. To Cramer, who has experience as a restaurant owner, some of the most important factors for success are traffic and throughput. The new grill can be only found in 10 high-volume Chipotle locations, Cramer said. Cramer grouped aerospace company Honeywell in with Chipotle as another stock that plunged on Thursday that he thinks will perform well in the future. Opposition leader Raila Odinga has repeatedly called for acts of civil disobedience against a government he accuses of raising the cost of living and consolidating power. Police killed 37 people during the protests, Kenyan rights group Independent Medico-Legal Unit said earlier this week, while Azimio claims at least 50 people were slain. The interior ministry said on Wednesday claims that security forces committed extrajudicial killings or used excessive force were false and malicious. CNBC's Jim Cramer told investors on Thursday not to get distracted by "nonsense" this week and focus on Friday's June labor report. Instead, Cramer suggested investors keep their eyes on the June labor report, which will be released on Friday. The report is expected to show a red-hot job market, and Cramer said it is likely the market will get "clobbered" and the Federal Reserve will then raise rates "with abandon." "So much of what passes for wisdom on Wall Street is totally meaningless," Cramer said. He also recommended that investors raise cash and ring the register on stocks that have tallied solid gains.
